What the light does

SturtBar is a macOS menu bar app that keeps watch on your AI plan usage: session windows, credit balances and reset countdowns. Usage limits are the rocks. Your remaining quota is your sea room. The light stays lit so you always know how much passage you have left.

The Lamp
Two quiet bars beside the clock, the session and the week, filling as the water rises. A full bar is the message.
The Logbook
One click for the numbers: sea room as a percentage, the reset countdown and credits where your plan reports them.
Notices to Mariners
Rare and useful. One notice as the water shoals, one if you run aground and one when the tide turns. No streaks, no nagging.

SturtBar watches your usage, never you. Your credentials and session logs stay on your Mac; the only signals sent are the ones listed here.

What the light reads

  • Claude Code's credentials, read-only.
  • Session logs under ~/.claude/projects, scanned locally for spend: the token counts only, never your prompts or replies.
  • With the Codex provider enabled (opt-in): its sign-in (~/.codex/auth.json) and its session logs as well, read-only. Contents are read only while the Codex provider is enabled.

What signals it sends

Reads your usage numbers, authenticated with the OAuth token, on each refresh.

Refreshes the OAuth token, only when a stored token has expired.

Reads your Codex usage numbers, on each refresh, only while the Codex provider is enabled.

What it never does

  • No telemetry, no analytics, no accounts, no tracking.
  • Never writes to Claude Code's credential stores or to anything under ~/.codex.
  • Never sends its logs anywhere. Diagnostic logs live in macOS's own system log on your Mac, with secrets redacted before they are written.

First to shine, last to sleep

Cape Willoughby, on the eastern tip of Kangaroo Island, was South Australia's first lighthouse: first lit in 1852, the 17th raised in Australia and the last in the state to be demanned, in 1992. SturtBar re-mans the light.
